SONDRA DORN

Sondra Dorn’s extensive collection of techniques and many talents come together in the mixed media textile paintings she creates in her Asheville, NC studio. Dorn uses a multi-layered process and her imagination to develop a meditative series of intriguing landscapes. Silks, linen, and papers along with paints, inks, charcoal, colored pencils, hand-stitched threads are utilized to provide depth to her pieces and allowing colors and textures to blend in unexpected ways.

As Dorn says about her work...

“I love the gathering of parts and bring them together using stitching on linen, drawing with pens and pencils then layering and collaging these bits using acrylic mediums and paints. Collage paintings of re-imagined landscapes – abstract, yet familiar – elements taken from photos and objects of the world around me, representing my internal landscape.”

Dorn received a BFA from University of the Arts Philadelphia and MFA University of Washington, Seattle. In addition she was an Artist in Residence at both the acclaimed Penland School of Crafts and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.  Recent exhibits has seen Dorn’s work receive several awards, as well as featured articles in North Carolina magazines.
