Trained as a printmaker, Ann Sklar’s work has evolved from the detail and precision required of that medium to swatches of color laid down in layers of paint. Sklar’s paintings depict the “universal qualities of landscapes.”
Hailing from Philadelphia, Sklar received a degree from Temple University and a fine art degree from Arcadia University. She is the Co-founder of two galleries in Philadelphia and currently shows her work in Portland, Maine where she now lives and in Tampa, Florida her winter residence.
IN HER OWN WORDS
I portray those common characteristics that make one feel like they know the place and that it speaks to them of something deep and complex, something familiar and yet mysterious. My modern landscapes are meant to evoke a mood of contemplation of a quiet time and place. … I like to create a feeling of limitlessness and mystery, and a sense that the horizon is infinite.”
