CATHY CONN

Cathy Conn was born in Denison, Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas with a BFA in sculpture, she lived in northern California, before moving to a remote village on the west coast of Mexico. During the years she lived in Houston, Conn worked in various media including lithography, mixed media, drawing and sculpture.

After moving to South Florida in 1998, Conn would often walk the beach, where she found inspiration for future work. “I kept discovering these beautiful smooth rocks. I envisioned them inlaid with silver, looking like ancient runes just washed up. The discovery of how to create this effect has led me to the path of metalsmithing.” Conn creates one of a kind jewelry pieces, creating the back and inside of each piece with just as much thought and creativity as the front. She loves to include secrets and surprises in her designs. “Once a Texan, always a Texan” is Conn’s logo in life and art, as she always signs her pieces with a lone star. 

Conn continues to work in other media, mostly drawing and mixed media sculpture. She says, “More and more I am able to pull together all the skills I have been developing over a lifetime and not only is it gratifying, but so much fun! for it finally to feel like it’s all coming together.”
