DUET: PAUL CHALEFF AND HOLLIS JEFFCOAT
Original Exhibit Dates: January 7 to 30, 2010
Our eighth exhibit paired the large ceramic jars of Paul Chaleff with the early abstract paintings of Hollis Jeffcoat to create a unique harmony between paint and clay.
Paul Chaleff is a pioneer and recognized expert in the technique of Japanese wood-fired pottery and the creation of large-scale ceramic vessels. This exhibit featured his large ceramic jars with innovative glazes as well as organic wood-fired vessels.
Hollis Jeffcoat spent her early career painting in France, where she lived with Joan Mitchell for three years, and then Montreal, Canada. The paintings featured in this exhibit chronicle these early years, from 1976 to 1985, and reflect Jeffcoat's surroundings and influences at the time,.
