Ginnie Cappaert’s small paintings are filled with color, line and texture. Their simplicity belie the in-depth process of layering, scraping down and revising that comprise each little “Color Snap.” Working in oil and cold wax on paper or wood, Cappaert strives to capture the beauty and serenity of the local landscapes and those she has experienced in her travels. Skies, vast lands and light are what inspire her to create her minimal abstracted landscapes. By looking closely and focusing on patterns, line, shape and color in an intimate way, Cappaert is able to capture a freedom found in distant horizons and wide expanses
Cappaert has been a full time artist for 20 years exhibiting extensively throughout the Midwest. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors including several museum exhibits. Cappaert lives and works in Door County with a winter studio in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
I discovered Cappaert’s work at the Globe Gallery in Santa Fe where Steve Cie, the owner/director was kind enough to make an introduction. Welcome to Sanibel.
IN HER OWN WORDS
“It is the landscape imagery and its deep space that I explore in my work by building up 30-40 layers of oil paints and mixed mediums. I strive to accomplish a feeling of serenity, of peace or joy. Art is made from the soul.”made from the soul.”
