PEACEABLE KINGDOM
Original Exhibit Dates: December 11th, 2012 to January 5th, 2013
December’s exhibit was inspired by a series of paintings titled “The Peaceable Kingdom” by Edward Hicks (1780-1849), which features different creatures – predator and prey – around a watering hole living in peace (a needed metaphor for our times, I'd say). Dr. Greg Woodham, Sanibel resident, naturist and art patron brought this painting to our attention two years ago and kept asking if we had ever seen one with a Florida motif. Although we'd never found one, we thought that an exhibition with different creatures gathered around the gallery would be a fabulous show, especially for the Islands where we try to live in harmony with Nature. The result was the new exhibit, "Peaceable Kingdom.” There are eight artists in this exhibit. Many of whom knew of these paintings and were excited to create specific work with this theme. At the gallery we had creatures great and small in paint, paper, clay and glass.
